The Honeymooners

67664cf0e8880@300.jpg?profile=RESIZE_400x

The Honeymooners is an American television sitcom that originally aired from 1955 to 1956, created by and starring Jackie Gleason, and based on a recurring comedy sketch of the same name that had been part of Gleason's variety show. It follows the lives of New York City bus driver Ralph Kramden (Gleason), his wife Alice (Audrey Meadows), Ralph's best friend Ed Norton (Art Carney) and Ed's wife Trixie (Joyce Randolph) as they get involved with various schemes in their day-to-day living.

Most episodes revolve around Ralph's poor choices in absurd dilemmas that frequently show his judgmental attitude in a comedic tone. The show occasionally features more serious issues such as women's rights and social status.

The final episode of The Honeymooners aired on September 22, 1956, and Gleason sporadically revived the characters until 1978. The Honeymooners was one of the first American television shows to portray working-class married couples in a gritty, non-idyllic manner, as the show is mostly set in the Kramdens' kitchen in a neglected Brooklyn apartment building. One of the sponsors of the show was Buick.

The Six Shooter Becomes The Restless Gun

676653668655d@300.jpg?profile=RESIZE_400x

The television series "The Restless Gun" evolved directly from the radio classic "The Six Shooter." The Six Shooter starred James Stewart as Britt Ponset, a solitary wanderer and gunfighter in the American West, and ran on NBC radio from 1953 to 1954. When adapted for television in 1957, the pilot episode featured John Payne as Britt Ponset, maintaining the same character and premise.

The pilot for "The Restless Gun" aired in March 1957 as an episode of "Schlitz Playhouse of Stars," with Payne in Stewart’s radio role, Britt Ponset.Though the early TV scripts were directly adapted from "The Six Shooter" radio episodes, by the time the series began airing as "The Restless Gun," Payne's character was renamed Vint Bonner. The name "Six Shooter" continued to appear in some initial episodes, acknowledging its radio heritage.

The series ran for 78 episodes on NBC from 1957-1959, featuring Bonner as a wandering cowboy who often chose peaceful solutions over violence.

Nightfall (CBC radio series)

Nightfall_cassette_cover_1984.jpg?profile=RESIZE_400x

Nightfall was a radio drama series produced and aired by CBC Radio from July 1980 to June 1983. While primarily a supernatural/horror series, Nightfall featured some episodes in other genres, such as science fiction, mystery, fantasy, and human drama. Some of Nightfall's episodes were so terrifying that the CBC registered numerous complaints and some affiliate stations dropped it.[1] Despite this, the series went on to become one of the most popular shows in CBC Radio history,[2] running 100 episodes that featured a mix of original tales and adaptations of both classic and obscure short stories.

Nightfall was created by producer Bill Howell, who was known at the time for his work on CBC Playhouse and the cult adventure series, Johnny Chase: Secret Agent of Space. When CBC Radio was revamped and given an expanded budget in 1980, Howell approached the newly appointed head of radio drama, Susan Rubeš, about his idea for a supernatural/horror anthology series. Though not a fan of the horror genre, Rubeš greenlit the production.

Bill Howell served as executive producer of Nightfall at CBC Toronto for the first two seasons. The third season was produced by Don Kowalchuk at CBC Vancouver.

Nightfall featured two hosts during its run. The Toronto years (1980–1982) were hosted by "the mysterious Luther Kranst", a character created by Bill Howell and played by character actor Henry Ramer. For its Vancouver run (1982–1983), Don Kowalchuk worked with voice actor Bill Reiter to develop the character of Frederick Hende.

The Beatles: The Days In Their Life

THE BEATLES: The Days In Their Life

A thirty-hour chronology tracing the life of four musicians who had a dramatic effect on directions taken by others. The group that inspired and redefined the boundaries of contemporary music.

Below is the press release accompanying the set from TM Productions at the time of release in 1981:
"The Beatles: The Days In Their Life" is a 30-hour chronological study of the band that did more to change the scope of popular music than any other force of the 1960's.

During the first 24 hours of the special, every song ever recorded by The Beatles is played, including several numbers never released. Because the producers have gained access to the original EMI masters, some songs previously heard only in mono are now in stereo.

The final 6 hours of the show trace the direction each of The Beatles took after the band dis-banded in December 1970. All information is completely up-to-date as of the date of release in 1981.

"The Beatles: The Days In Their Life" includes hundreds of interviews with The Beatles themselves and their associates, many of which have never been heard.

22This twenty-one volume set contains the entire Days In Their Life program as it was originally broadcast in the early Eighties. The Days In Their Life was originally pressed onto thirty vinyl LP records. It was these vinyl LPs that radio stations used as a source for their broadcasts. The collection presented here is sourced from one of these original broadcast vinyl LP sets.

Orson Wells Interview

500px-Orson_Welles_1937_cr3-4.jpg?profile=RESIZE_400x

George Orson Welles (May 6, 1915 – October 10, 1985) was an American director, actor, writer, producer, and magician who is remembered for his innovative work in film, radio, and theatre. He is among the greatest and most influential filmmakers of all time.

Aged 21, Welles directed high-profile stage productions for the Federal Theatre Project in New York City—starting with a celebrated 1936 adaptation of Macbeth with an African-American cast, and ending with the controversial labor opera The Cradle Will Rock in 1937. He and John Houseman founded the Mercury Theatre, an independent repertory theatre company that presented productions on Broadway through 1941, including a modern, politically charged Caesar (1937). In 1938, his radio anthology series The Mercury Theatre on the Air gave Welles the platform to find international fame as the director and narrator of a radio adaptation of H. G. Wells's novel The War of the Worlds, which caused some listeners to believe a Martian invasion was occurring. The event rocketed the 23-year-old to notoriety.

A facinating interview with Orson Welles including his time at the dinner table with Hitler!
