Inside a plastic barrel were a bunch of identically-shaped, multi-colored monkeys. The idea was to take one monkey out of the barrel and then hook its arm to another monkey, and so on. The player with the longest string (or whoever could get all the monkeys linked -- I never saw that happen except in the TV commercial) was the winner.It was one of many uncomplicated games, like Jacks and Pick-Up Sticks, that challenged the dexterity of kids -- and even adults (it wasn't that easy).This game might seem dumb and overly simple to people who aren't familiar with it, until they learn that its popularity was replaced by an even more overly-simple video game called Pong (electronic ping-pong).
