The Metropolitan Washington Old-Time Radio Club is seeking a person to replace and maintain the standards set by the retiring editor of Radio Recall, a nationally-recognized bimonthly 12-page journal in newsletter format featuring articles on radio broadcast history and classic radio comedy and drama.
DUTIES
- Solicit, through networking; and evaluate and edit unique* articles for publication focusing on old-time/classic radio. *Articles should not have appeared in other publications unless there is compelling reason for reprinting.
- Lay out journal in an attractive format utilizing current electronic desktop publishing programs. Reply to letters and inquiries. Electronically transmit journal to all members and corresponding members. Prepare camera-ready edition for printing to members receiving paper copies.
- Co-ordinate with MWOTRC Membership Chairman to economically and efficiently print and distribute paper copies; Maintain frequent contact with Membership Chairman to ensure that new members receive electronic editions.
- Attend MWOTRC club meetings as often as possible.
- Promote Radio Recall to other organizations and in other hobby-related media, including providing details of upcoming issues.
- Consult with Publisher on upcoming content and on printing or reprinting of any articles, letters or art that may be legally or otherwise questionable.
QUALIFICATIONS
- Demonstrated ability in writing, editing, and desktop publishing.
- Working knowledge of: proper spelling, punctuation and grammar.
- Familiarity with or interest in Old-Time/classic radio or radio broadcasting history.
- Experience in networking and soliciting unique articles for publication.
Reports to: MWOTRC Publisher (President). Appointed by: Publisher, with the advice and consent of the selection committee and/or Executive Advisory Board.
Term: Continuous unless withdrawn by Publisher for cause. Editor shall provide at least 90 days’ notice of resignation. Position is unpaid but offers good experience and networking opportunities.
