Midnight Cab

Midnight Cab is a classic Canadian radio drama that aired on CBC Radio from 1992 to 1996. Part of "The Mystery Project" anthology, it gained a cult following for its atmospheric depiction of Toronto's "dark side".

The Story & Characters

The series follows Walker Devereaux (played by David Ferry), a 19-year-old aspiring novelist who moves from northern Ontario to Toronto. To support himself, he works the graveyard shift driving a taxi, where he repeatedly stumbles into dangerous mysteries and urban legends.

Krista Papadopoulos: Walker’s sharp-witted dispatcher (played by Jacqueline Samuda), who often provides critical help or confusion via the cab's radio.

Setting: The show is noted for its gritty, noir-inspired portrayal of 1990s Toronto.

Episodes: There are 35 or 36 half-hour episodes produced across three seasons.

Creator: Written by playwright and novelist James W. Nichol and directed/produced by Bill Howell.

Legacy: The success of the radio show led Nichol to write a novel of the same name in 2002, which won the Arthur Ellis Award for Best First Novel.
