The Hound of the Baskervilles by Sir Arthur Conan Doyle (Rees/Logan) 1988

"This is a BBC audio Hound of the Baskervilles from 1988 which predates the Clive Merrison/Michael Williams version.  As far as I know it's never been repeated since its first broadcast.  The stars are Roger Rees (Cheers, Nicholas Nickelby, Men in Tights and many others) and BBC stalwart Crawford Logan (who at that time was best-known as the doctor in The Archers!)

It's a typical BBC Classic Serial with a full cast, sound effects and music.

    I think my version of this is 128 kbps. I might download the first part to compare seeing as it's 160kbps. Hopefully it's not an artificial 160kbps.

    I'm really pleased to have found this. I didn't actually know it was on here (although with hindsight, I guess it's not exactly rocket-science!) 

     

    Bert Coules talks about this production the excellent (albeit very short) book he wrote to accompany the Complete Box Set of the Merrison/Williams partnership. There's a great publicity shot of them (Roger Rees and Crawford Logan) in which they look more like something from Doctor Who than Sherlock!   

     

    It's reviews were generally positive, although Isome guy from the Times apparently gave it a bit of a pasting.
