No Place Like Holmes

A warning - this will NOT be everyone's cuppa. It's certainly not Canonical or even a pastiche. It's farce - well-done, intelligent farce, but if you only like the serious Holmes, stop reading.

Ross K. Foad, the writer, director, producer and star of these pieces, is well known in Sherlockian circles. In addition to these pieces, he had preserved and presented the Great Sherlock Holmes Debates, created a website for the wonderful Holmesiana collection of Howard Ostrom, and offers intelligent reviews of new Canonical and non-Canonical works about Holmes.

This is a decidedly low-budget series. Foad avoids the need for Victorian surroundings and trappings by having Holmes transported to the 21st Century. Despite his modern surrouundings, he maintains his Victorian sensibilities and manners, as well as his Victorian views on cwertain subjects which do mark him as "odd" in the view of his modern compatriots.

I will confess that I found Foad and his fellow actors difficult to understand at first. Their speech is rapid heavily accented, but I am certain that the same discomfort would befall him if he were to tavel to my native Brooklyn, whose English is equally rapid and accented.  :>)

Some notes on the files and folders:

In most of the folders, you will see both individual files and a file marked "FULL"  The "FULL" file is a newer, re-edited version of the story. It is more than sufficient for the casual viewere, although the completist will want both. (Yes, Jake, i mean YOU!)

In a few of the dolders, you will find files marked "REISSUE". These are simply re-edited compilations of the earlier episodes in larger chunks.

The stories are meant to be viewed in order, with "The Great Hiatus Years"  being sort of a filler between Series One and Two.

This is a large series with approximately 30 GB so far (it's an activve project)  so you might to to download a bit at a time.

Finally, if you enjoy this work, please consider supporting Ross in his efforts at

  • It was only a few days ago that I came across the NPLH website. I was trying to find air dates for the Petherbridge/Peart HOUN and google gave me the following page in it's results.

I did bookmark the website to check at another time. I see they have another series called The Mary Morstan Mysteries.

    • If these are popular, I'll put up the Morstan productions
