I'm hoping one of you, Roger maybe, could shed some light on these Brett files for the blind.
Sometimes whilst browsing eBay I have come across 2 cassette collections and they are usually both very expensive.
Earlier I noticed one of them going for £44.
Seeing some similarity in the stories on the cassettes and those here I started digging deeper.
I have the following 'Brett for the blind' files from this discussion.
Silver Blaze.mp3 The Boscombe Valley Mystery.mp3 The Hound Of The Baskervilles.mp3 The Man With The Twisted Lip.mp3 The Musgrave Ritual.mp3 The Priory School.mp3 The Second Stain.mp3
The 2 cassette releases feature the following 4 stories. The Man With The Twisted Lip The Musgrave Ritual The Priory School The Second Stain
I can't help but think that those 4 of the 7 mp3s are probably from these cassette releases. Listen to the extra narration in the 4 stories and the other 3. All of the 4 have the same narrator I believe and it's not the same person as the other 3. The style of narration is different as well.
My research ended with the page linked to next (and the 2 worldcat links in the link.) Go to the second from last post by Piggy0024. It's where I pinched the image above from.
I wonder why those 4 stories were used? Off the top of my head I remember that Musgrave and Twisted Lip are not the same as the originals with Watson appearing in Musgrave, so after he meets Holmes, and him living at Baker Street in Twisted Lip so Mrs. Hudson has to make tea and console Kate Whitney instead. I clearly remember what Rosalie Williams (Mrs Hudson) says after Kate complains about men actually remaining like little boys forever:
"They always need us to kiss them better afterwards - in a manner of speaking of course."
It would be nice to know for certain if I'm correct on this. Any thoughts anybody?
Your right, they didn’t bother with Mrs. Watson in this series. This lead to alternations in stories like ‘Twisted Lip’ & ‘Final Problem’.
Many thanks to the posters. It’s a novel experiment but not totally successful, Michael Cochrane’s narration is out of sympathy with the soundtrack that doesn’t lead itself to adaptation for audio tapes. The others sound like audio description which works a little better.
Downloaded 2 of these, thought I'd give them a listen, Hound was good, and was really enjoying The Musgrave Ritual but it ends short! Any chance of a re-up of a complete version and how many of these did they do? Cheers

I downloaded this when I first joined and I just checked it. 51:53
Hound is over 100 minutes.
I have played a couple of these only (I'm not a lover of Brett's Holmes). Whilst I can't say for sure if it's complete the start and end sound right as well as the episode time if I recall correctly.
So if you have 51:53 I'd take an educated guess and say you have the complete version. If not then maybe your download got corrupted.
The Musgrave Ritual runs 51 minutes and 53 seconds. I have downloaded my upload and it is complete. I'm afraid I can't explain what has happened to your download. I have very little knowledge of the workings of the site. Could I suggest that you try again. If that fails I'll try a second upload. I'm not sure how many of these were made.

Here's my 128 rip of The Musgrave Ritual and The Second Stain complete with tape art.
I could ask if it's any different to the ones here already of which are fine quality wise. I could also ask for just the tape art but I'll just download it and have a look.
I asked Roger about these last year. I think (I stress 'think') he said they were given away as part of a magazine series (sorry if I've got that wrong Roger - hazy memory.) Since then I have seen a Insp. Morse set which looked as though it came from the same stable. Brett's Holmes and Morse were both ITV productions.

I've had a quick listen and your rip does sound slightly better (to me) than the existing one. The levels sound a little higher. Nice to have the cassette inlay as well. Handy having a scanner isn't it?
Can I take it you're after the other one as well (Twisted Lip and The Priory School). If so I'll keep an eye out for you.
One other thing. Do you live in America? I'm after something which requires a US address. Canada is also no good. I'd be happy to buy it ($10) for just a mp3 rip of it. You might be interested yourself. Kingsley Amis wrote a Holmes story titled The Darkwater Hall Mystery. It was printed in an issue of Playboy. There is also a cassette release of a reading of the story on Amazon.
BBC TV made an adaptation of it as well. Around 1974 with Edward Fox as Dr Watson. I'm not sure if Holmes is even in the story. It's believed to be lost now. Another gem the BBC wiped.

Thanks, just downloaded it again and it runs to over 51 mins, so could have been a corrupt download, cheers
