The Case of the Vanishing Author

Sir Arthur Conan Doyle did offer to provide spiritualist assistance when Agatha Christie disappeared in 1926. Stephen Sheridan's play adds Dorothy L Sayers and, er, Sherlock Holmes to the search party. Holmes is played by Clive Merrison, Sayers by Rachel Atkins, and Conan Doyle by Derek Waring. The play was broadcast on BBC Radio 4, on 17 June 2002. Roger

Roger, the copy that you've uploaded has been re-coded to 192kbps and muffled. Here is my copy at 320kbps (rather strange encode) but it is quite clear.

      Enjoy, katy
    • Thanks, Katy.

I don't seem to have the means - I certainly don't have the knowledge - to choose the encoding of the recordings I post.

Again you've provided a really nice graphic!

    • Hi Roger:

It is not your fault Roger at all. What happens is that the original capper decides to encode at a very high rate, e.g. 320kbps (a bit strange considering that most radio is at 64kbps or 128kbps via the iPlayer). Then someone else comes along and re-encodes it at 192kbps and therefore the muffled sounds.

It is an excellent Afternoon Play so I uploaded my copy which is nice and clear. You can add this one to your collection.

      Cheers, katy
  • Ok, this should be fun. Thanks a lot.
