  • Some of you might find you already have this.

There's a 3 hour show introduced by Nick Utechin titled The Game's Afoot. It features 5 (I think) adaptations of different stories featuring the various actors that have played Holmes and Watson over the years. Hobbs and Shelley, Gielgud and Richardson, Merrison and Williams.

The 3 hour show was broadcast regularly on BBC Radio 7 and I think it's already been repeated once on Radio 7's new incarnation - 4 Extra. I grabbed it once myself when it was on at 128k if anybody is interested. I thought The Game's Afoot was here already.

    • Reading my previous post it might not be clear to some people that what I was saying is that the Cedric Hardwicke and Finlay Currie SPEC was part of Nick Utechin's The Game's Afoot.

I have just uploaded my 128k version of The Game's Afoot to 4Shared. It's one mp3 of about 170MB.

Sherlock Holmes Enthusiast Nick Utechin Presents A Special Compilation Of
The Detective's Presence On The Radio From The 1940s To 2004.
Plus An Interview With Writer And Dramatist Bert Coules.

      Features:
Sir Cedric Hardwicke and Finlay Currie - The Adventure of the Speckled Band (19450517)
Sir John Gielgud and Sir Ralph Richardson - The Red-Headed League (19541019)
Carleton Hobbs and Norman Shelley - The Boscombe Valley Mystery (19661212)
Clive Merrison and Michael Williams - The Return of Sherlock Holmes: The Solitary Cyclist (19930317)
Clive Merrison and Andrew Sachs - The Further Adventures of Sherlock Holmes: The Abergavenny Murder (20040518)

I remember reading a few years back now that Jeremy Brett and Edward Hardwicke listened to this (SPEC) on set once. I can't remember reading how it arrived on set. I don't think the article I read went into it much. I think it was a surprise for Edward Hardwicke who was unaware of it.

    •   I store files on my computer by artist.  I hope you do not mind, but I have downloaded your file and then edited it to carve out the Hardwicke-Currie file at 128 kbps.  I claim no credit for this file.  The work was all yours.  I just thought others may want to have this file as a stand alone, instead of one piece of a group of shows.  The file can be downloaded from the link below.

    • I don't mind what people do with the files I link to Jim so do whatever's best for you. I tag by artist and/or author myself.

    • Thank you

    •   Thank you for the upgrade.

  •  There was an introduction by Adrian Conan Doyle (Arthur Conan Doyle's son).  I have heard pieces of the intro separately in documentaries.  The file attached  has both the introduction and the The Speckled Band program.

The file at 32 kbs was over the 5 MB limit.  I converted it to a 16 kbs file.

    • A slip of the keys on my part. It was, of course, 1945.
