The Pillow Book returns to BBC Radio 4 for a second series, based on the 10th-century diary of Sei Shonagon, a Japanese lady-in-waiting to the Empress. It stars Ruth Gemmell and Mark Bazeley and is adapted for radio by Sony Gold award-winning writer Robert Forrest.
Autumn has arrived in the Palace. After the exploits of the previous winter, Shonagon has heard no word from Lieutenant Yukinari. Despite the arrival of two new courtiers in the Palace, seemingly paying court to the beautiful Shonagon, she is not well and no longer writing. An ill wind then brings bad news and a letter from Yukinari that will lead to a new crisis at the palace.
