Pippi Goes Abroad by Astrid Lindgren

Children's book about the escapades of Pippi Longstocking, Sweden's strongest little girl. Read by Sandi Toksvig

"Pippi lives alone at Villekulla Cottage. Because there are no grown ups with her, she does what she likes whenever she wants to. She has 2 friends Tommy and Annika who likes to visit her because she’s so funny and always does extraordinary things. Pippi’s only family is a monkey, “Mr. Nelson” and a horse. One day Pippi and her friends went shopping, using the gold coins her father had left her, she bought one arm of a dummy, 36 pounds of sweets and shared it with the children. The children followed her to the toy shop where she bought toys for them. While in a shopping mood Pippi went into the chemist and bought eight bottles of medicine of which some were marked “not be taken”. She noticed one bottle was not full, emptied the bottles into this one and took a big sip of it!! Her friends feared it could be poisonous. Pippie wrote and posted a letter to herself because she never receives any mail. Pippi was surprised by a visitor, who was actually her father, and sailed off sunset with him. I loved reading this story, Pippi is funny and exciting and adventurous." Reviewed by: Brittany, Age: 10 years
