"Shortly before his death I asked him what he really thought on the subject, since he had written better ghost-stories than any man living. He answered: 'Depend upon it! Some of these things are so, but we do not know the rules!'" --- Shane Leslie on M.R. James.

Although he was a great scholar in his day, he is now most remembered for his ghost stories. Fascinated by the supernatural, he was an admirer of the Irish mystery-writer Sheridan LeFanu, whose ghost stories he edited.

  • Never noticed this before Roger thanks. I have the DVD of ITV's Casting the Runes and this is an extra. A short from the old ITV schools show Music Scene. I do remember the show although I can't remember catching the Mr Humphreys episode.

    • Thanks, Jake.

This production by Essex Audio Theatre is not, of course, the "Music Scene" version...

      Roger

    • Reading my comment again I think I can see what you're picking up on.
