Simon arrives for breakfast and meets with the General. He is perturbed at seeing a ghost the previous night telling the General that he is leaving because of it. He said he saw the ghost three times going in and out of his room and always been one who is skeptical of these things, he was quite shaken by seeing the ghost of the 'White Lady'.

Some men of the village will not work at the General's Manor because of the ghost but not John. What he hasn't seen he doesn't care about. John has a dislike for Jeffrey, who works at the Manor as a gardener, and picks on him because of his simple ways and the fact that he didn't fight in the First World War. Also at the Manor is the maid, Mary, with whom John plans to marry but she
has her doubts about John. Mary has a fondness for Jeffrey and doesn't understand why John always picks on him. But John goes a step to far when he plays a joke on Jeffrey who believes in the ghost of the 'White Lady'.

With Nigel Anthony [John], Glynis Brooks [Mary], Alaric Cotter [Jeffrey Ryland], Jeffrey Segal [General Whitterly], Leslie Heritage [Simon], Haydn Jones [Jack], Malcolm Reid [Dick], Margo Boyd [Cook], Tim Ferrin [Tom], Mary-Clare Nash [Lucy], and Deborah Paige [Nurse Leadbetter].
