Nicholas Courtney R.I.P.

This seemed the appropriate place for this message. I've just read in the paper that Nicholas Courtney has died aged 81. He leaves a long legacy of entertainment for us Dr Who/Scarifyers fans. He will definitely be missed!

  • I managed to miss the news so this post put a chill in my soul. Can’t think what to say. It’s just knocked me out. He was an icon. I was lucky enough to meet him on a few occasions.

A true gent. I saw him at what I think was his last convention appearance last year. He’d been scheduled to appear at an earlier convention but had to cancel & suddenly they announced him as a surprise guest.

He was obviously unwell but we were so happy to see him. On stage he casually mentioned that he had cancer & was undergoing treatment. Afterwards he signed autographs, I casually mentioned that I didn’t have much not knowing that he was going to be there & he apologised!

Wonderful man. A shame he wasn’t given a career renaissance like Liz Sladen but I look upon it not that he missed out on the new show but that they missed out on him. Daleks were mandatory for every Doctor but the Brig was a close 2nd!

Sad to think we won’t see the Brig again. Sad to think we won’t hear Lionheart in the wonderful Scarifyers again and so sad to think that Nick Courtney has passed away RIP.

  • Salutes smartly. 21 gun salute for the Brig. Sad sad news.
    • Not a 21-gun salute, but Five Rounds Rapid, four times in succession, followed by a simultaneous blast from all.
    • Indeed! I'd hoped to meet him some time at one of the occasional Doctor Who signing sessions, but that ain't going to happen now.
