  • I'm swooning! Sooo many great things here! Thank you!!!!!!!!!!

    • Enjoy!!

  • Hi Anson,

Okay. I only use the term "remaster"as a generalisation. I use the the term because, in regards to ROIO's I am using the master/original recorded source material. But for such items as radio plays etc I will now use the term "restored" to differentiate from original MASTER source material and "copies"

  • Hi Rick and Steve,

Thanks for the comments. I have not uploaded any remastered works to Times Past yet, just in case the policy was similar to that employed by Demonoid, ie, if a copy exists, then no-one can upload another copy, regardless of differences.

If anyone would like a copy of my remastered Sherlock V Dracula, then I will upload it, either here or on the Sherlock Holmes group page.

I have also partially remastered the Eric Macdonald "Dracula" play from 1975/1979, and will upload this soon as well.

I just need a recommendation of where to host my files, or should I just put them in SKYDRIVE folder???

    cheers,

    Michael.

PS while on the subject of Dracula, does anyone have or know how to locate a copy of DRACULA (Pickwick Talking Books) read by Anthony Valentine - one tape cassette approx 1 hour. circa 1980/1??

      That simply is not true.

There are MYRIAD  duplicates on Demonoid, even in the so-called "audiobook" area which includes radio productions.  If your "remastered" files were taken down, then they matched byte-for-byte, someone else's work or you failed to distinguish between the existing offering and your own. THAT will get your "copy" deleted.

An erstwhile member here offers work on Demonoid as The Great Wizard. His work (which comes from our joint library) is often an edited, updated, more complete encode of an existing torrent. They do NOT get deleted.

BTW - unless you have access to the original MASTER recordings (the BBC tapes or discs), your work is NOT "remastering." It may be cleaning up, editing, sound remixing, noise reduction, etc., but it is NOT a new encode made from the original source.

    • Since Demonoid is down and reportedly for a goodly length of time the point is moot at this time.  Myself, I can only speak for Times Past.  I get things from a myriad of places but I usually only post here.  If you Gentlemen wish to discuss the policies of another site please take further discussion to PMs.

    • Skydrive with a link is good.  Our policy is that better copies of something may be posted and up until now have used the bitrate as a gauge of better.  Just tell why yours is better in the text.  If it is a duplicate of one of mine I usually delete mine altogether.  In a case like this where you are reworking a post and better is very easily discernible I simply wait until someone complains to me and that usually does not happen.  I will look for what you want, it seems to ring a bell, but I am somewhat disorganized so all i can say is I will look.  The best way to find something here is to join Private requests and ask for it.  Itry to discourage cluttering up the other groups with requests and BTW many members frequent Private requests just to see if they do have something others may want.  ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------  Rick

  • Very pleased to get this. Thanks, Michael and Rick.

  • Hi Rick,

I remastered this from another source in May 2012. The original file had a number of glitches within the file, which I corrected. I then rerecorded the file @ 224kbps and uploaded the remastered file on demonoid under my pseudonym of Jfripper. Having downloaded the first file from the link on this page I have verified that the attributes and properties of the file are identical to my copy on my HDD. (I still have both files - original and remastered copy)

That is why I left the comment in my last post.

I have, and continue to do, a lot of remastering of old or damaged recordings including ROIO's and radio broadcasts.

My most pleasing was a remaster of a Bryan Ferry concert from 1988 that had been recorded on a tape cassette that had a battery drain problem at the time of the recording being made. This caused a very bad speed problem when played back on an electricity powered machine. It took me two days of speed adjustments and tweaking to get the recording back to a pitch perfect, speed perfect recording.

I also did a remaster of the Sherlock Holmes V Dracula radio play last year (2011) and uploaded this to demonoid too, where it clocked up over 700 downloads before it was pulled, due to a complaint by another member who had also uploaded a copy, which in my opinion was far inferior to my remastered copy.

    cheers,

    Michael
