  • Incidentally, the Terry-Thomas/Roger Livesey productions weren't BBC; they were a 1964 audio cassette production by Caedmon Audio in their Classic Literature series. I think they're really more of a muti-reader audiobook than a drama. A couple of reviews I found:

    =================

    These two Jeeves and Bertie short stories were recorded in 1964. "Jeeves Takes Charge" relates how the omniscient valet Jeeves first hooked up with the vapid, young man-about-town. In "Indian Summer of an Uncle," Jeeves saves Bertie's uncle from a silly young woman. The audio quality of this package is flawless, and, given the stature of the well-chosen main actors, it's difficult to find fault. Terry-Thomas is sibilant and vacuous, Livesey, somber and wise. However, there are many variants of Jeeves and Bertie in the audio world, and this one must take its place somewhere in the middle of the pack--well done, not bad, good fun.

    ===========================

    Jeeves, the inscrutable gentleman's gentleman who steers his befuddled employer Bertie Wooster through countless scrapes, is P.G. Wodehouse's wittiest and most enduring character.

    On this brilliantly played recording, Jeeves is portrayed by Roger Livesey while Terry-Thomas plays Bertie.Supported by an excellent cast, these actors render two vintage stories: Jeeves Takes Charge, in which Jeeves helps Bertie avoid marriage to a forbiddingly high-brow woman, and Indian Summer of an Uncle, a tale that finds Jeeves performing a similar service for Bertie's uncle, who must be rescued from the clutches of a silly young girl.

    Wodehouse's sparkling prose is meant to be read out loud, and this fine recording brings his sardonic humor to life as it ³conjures up a world of tea-trays, formidable aunts, rich uncles, romantic spinsters, and understated satire as British as tweed.

    • Thanks for the summary.  I don't even know how I came upon these recordings, let alone the background.  TT is a great favourite of mine.  I know that he did a lot of radio. What a sad end to this fine actor, even though it is clear from books on him, his real life character differed little from the one he presented on screen.  Do you have any recordings?

    • Peter

      All I have of his radio work is a couple of clips from the 1950s.  I've uploaded them to the Comedy uploads folder.

      Got your message on my return from my holiday.

      I have uploaded the episodes that you requested. I assume that it was right to upload them into the Comedy folder rather than to you direct.  Please advise as I am still fairly new to TP. I ask because I have only just notices the 'upload' button beneath the Reply button.

    • Thanks Peter.  FYI, your file 115 is a duplicate of your 019.  Similarly 165 is a duplicate of 018.

      Regards
