James Follett - The U-boat That Lost Its Nerve
BBC Radio 4: Saturday Night Theater
Broadcast: Saturday 22nd February 1975 @ 8:30 p.m.
A trial is taking place in a POW camp for German Officers, and a surrendered U-boat (U570), captured in 1941, is lying off
Barrow about to be refitted as a fighting ship for the Royal Navy.
Based on the true story of the surrender of the U-boat which became H.M.S. Graf and the sounds of the U-boat were from an actual recording of the captured German submarine made by the BBC during the war. The reconvening of the Council of Honour never, in fact, took place because British Intelligence informed the Authorities of what was afoot and all the German officers concerned were transfered to Canada where they were split up until the end of the war.
