It was the year that saw the birth of Gracie Allen, Jack Dempsey, Buckminster Fuller and Busby Berkeley-- 1895. The same year that brought the death of John Wesley Hardin and Louis Pasteur. In Canada, John Diefenbaker was born and Quentin Nickles as an expatriate, from Scotland Yard, came to the Ontario Constabulary. A clever professional, Inspector Nickles also has a dark and hidden agenda behind his decision to come to Canada. And while his secret quarry is never far from his thoughts, his daily duties cause enough trouble for a whole squad of policemen. Nickles "irregulars" include his first friend on arrival in this country; a feisty lady who has fought her way onto the squad of policemen.
