Abridged by Libby Spurrier
In 1910, Hungarian-born British novelist Baroness Orczy was responsible for a coming up with a female sleuth who, unlike her male opposite numbers, relied on brains rather than brawn to solve crime. Molly Robertson-Kirk succeeded in her investigations because she could pick up on clues of a domestic nature that were alien to her male counterparts. As remarkable as her detective feats were, she was actually driven by the desire to clear her fiancé’s name, following a false accusation against him.
Once her superior powers of detection have been successfully applied in a number of baffling cases, she promptly stops sleuthing, marries her fiancé and turns her back on police work.
