Father Brown is a British television period drama which began airing on BBC One on 14 January 2013. It features Mark Williams as the eponymous crime solving Roman Catholic priest. The series is based on the character of Father Brown created by G. K. Chesterton, primarily using new stories written for the series.

I watched the first half dozen of this series when it was shown locally, but found it difficult to get into. Maybe this was because I'm too familiar with the character (read the books, heard the radio series, watched the 1974 TV series, saw the movie, etc). Even the stories which used titles from the original GKC stories went off on a tangent and often substituted a completely new plot for the original. I have to say I haven't been back to it since, though I did like the main actor -- it was the scripting and the attempt to make an imitation Miss Marple out of the show that didn't please.

I really like DIP, especially the newer series with the "cklumsy" inspector. The mysteries are better, specializing in "locked room" puzzles, which are difficult on an island where straw huts seem to be the predominant architecture. :>)
