Eddie and Miss Simpson by Roger Davenport

Eddie, an ex-private eye now eking out a living as a toy salesman, finds himself back in the old routine when an attractive lady comes asking him to trace her six-year-old daughter. What should be a reasonably straight, down-the-line case soon has Eddie deep into the world of double-cross, and it's his life which is on the line.

 Eddie soon finds that neither the glamorous Miss Simpson nor anything else is quite what it seems...
