One of the Inspectors who worked with him when they were both at the same station is wanting The chief Inspectors position. Jack's retirement Party is coming up that Night and simultaneously a different kind of retirement party is being set up for a man on the other side of the law and neither "party" turns out as planned.

Alittle bit of trivia for you: Geoff Hinsliff who plays the retiring Inspector also plays a Police Inspector in "Afternoon Call" which is also in this group.

To people in the UK he is perhaps best known for appearing in "Coronation Street" in the 1990's.
