  • In the early 80's I set a difficult task for myself - to read all of Simenon's Maigret mysteries. I read as many as I could during the spring rainy season because that setting was reminiscent of the rainy days in Paris that Maigret always found himself in. It really set the mood for the stories.

    When I'd waded through some 40 of them, I wrote to Simenon in Lausanne. The reply from him was gracious as he expressed his love for America when he'd visited. I wonder what other Maigret's he would have written had he lived longer.
