I've always been surprised that Ed Bishop's Marlowe hasn't really been better received. I think these are truly fine adaptations of Chandler's genius - but at best, most of the time they seem to inspire nothing more than indifference. Even the BBC seemed to be half hearted in their CD releases of these; the original tapes were released fairly quickly and uniformed in the 2nd wave of crime style audio packaging (artwork wise). The CDs never got the same respect; the releases were bitty and the covers don't match each other. They've also never bothered to offer a "Complete" Marlowe boxset, which they seemingly have done with everything else! Maybe I'm just a bit too precious about some things....
