  • Thank you.  These are completely new to me.

Thanks so much for these programs.  I loved reading the late John Mortimer's novels.  I did make one mistake in referring to my wife as the 'one that must be obeyed' one time and she didn't care for it.  Otherwise the novels were wonderful and these great presentations added a proverbial cherry on the sweet cake.

  • Many, many thanks for posting these. I wasn’t too sure if I’d like them but Rumpole turned out to be a great character. Sometimes the twists in the cases are a little obvious but the final verdict is always gripping. You really wish that the ‘Old Bailey hack’ did exist & was waiting out there in case you got into trouble with the law!

  • When it was on TV, I really thought that Rumpole looked like the most boring program imaginable. In fairness I was about 10 and it had replaced The Professionals in the 9pm Friday night slot - so I think I should be forgiven.......

Some years later I happened to catch an episode on UK Gold and I remember I really enjoyed it. It always made me think I needed to investigate the series further - but I never got round to it. I've also caught a couple of stories on Radio 4 over the years and really enjoyed them - but I'd still never really checked it out properly.

Last weekend (I can't remember how) the subject of Rumpole came up and my girlfriend mentioned that she really loved it but hadn't seen it for simply years! A quick Amazon DVD search later and the whole TV series is available for £14 (that's 15 DVDs) so I bought it. I put the first disc on last night and I've now seen the whole of series 1!

It's taken me 30 odd years to fully come round to the rotund old hack - but right now I can't get enough of it!
