Pioneers of Television - Westerns

Stories of cowboys, sheriffs, outlaws, and ranchers dominated prime time TV in the 1950s the way reality shows rule the airwaves today. In the 1957 – 58 television season alone, there were more than 30 western series airing on the three major networks. PBS chronicles the genre’s contributions in Pioneers of Television: Westerns — one installment in a series of documentaries about the early pioneers that helped the medium evolve from a novelty into an art form.
