BBV was a video and audio production company specialising in science fiction drama, known for its links with the British science fiction television series Doctor Who (founder Bill Baggs is a fan, and BBV productions often feature characters and/or actors from the series). The name of the company is short for Bill & Ben Video, "Ben" being the nickname of Bill Baggs's wife, Helen.

After a few earlier experiments, BBV began regularly releasing audio dramas on CD in 1998, under the umbrella title Audio Adventures in Time & Space. The mainstay of the CD line to begin with was a series starring Sylvester McCoy and Sophie Aldred (the Doctor/companion team from the 1987, 1988 and 1989 seasons of Doctor Who) as a pair of wanderers in time and space named "The Professor" (McCoy) and "Ace" (Aldred) who so closely resembled the characters McCoy and Aldred had played on Doctor Who - even addressing each other by the same nicknames - that the BBC stepped in and their seventh outing, Ghosts, consequently introduced a number of changes to the characters that made the resemblance somewhat less close, the main one being that the adventures now featured "The Dominie" (McCoy) and "Alice" (Aldred).

The first of the Audio Adventures in Time & Space not to feature the McCoy/Aldred double act was Cyber-Hunt, the first BBV production to feature the Cyberons. A further Who-ish note was added by the introduction of an amnesic space traveler played by Nicholas Briggs, who some years earlier had played the Doctor in the Audio Visuals series of unlicensed fan audios. (He was dubbed "Fred" by one of the other characters after her pet goldfish).

BBV moved away from characters-who-might-be-the-Doctor (a field that, in any case, lost some of its appeal for fan audiences once Big Finish Productions began producing officially licensed Doctor Who audio dramas featuring the original actors reprising their incarnation of the character) and, following the success of the Auton trilogy, focussed more on stand-alone dramas featuring various Doctor Who alien races, licensed directly from the writers who created them. For some of those writers, the BBV audios have offered a chance to revisit their creations: for instance, the range includes a story by Pip & Jane Baker explaining what happened to the Rani (last seen in Doctor Who being abducted by a group of aliens that were also created by the writing pair), and a series of stories by Lawrence Miles about his history-spanning terrorist organisation Faction Paradox.

In 2002 BBV announced that they would not produce any more audio CDs, but would instead concentrate on their new DVD releases.

  • Thank you Rick!  11 minutes for the Lost Souls is a whole lot better than 5 hours for set 1 only needing #2.

    • The funny thing is that the 5 hours would not have gotten you what you wanted.  When I checked the shows I missed that it was missing and didn't know it until your request.  Now we both have the complete set.  Thanks for noticing it was missing LOL.    -------------------------------------------  R

  • Thank you for all of the new stuff! All of this is new to me, just about everything on here is new to me! One of these days I need to sit down and listen to some of it. LOL! I guess it is like when I collected over 5,000 albums. To bad I lived in a double wide and had to get rid of most of them.... I think I have a little over 400 now. I just seem to enjoy collecting!

  • Thank you!

    • it is in the Request and on the page with the original post.  -----------------------------  R

  • oops!  Was in the process of posting a 'thank you for sharing' for this and commented on some of the discussion and forgot to pull the trigger on the thank you.....well.....Rick...Thank you for sharing.   :o)

    • You are welcome.  I am in the process of downloading your missing episode request, hopefully it will complete.  it is a torrent.  I will let you know if it completes.  ----------------------------------------------  R

  • Thankyou so much wonderful

    • I got a Seagate Expansion Drive 1Tb.  it is one of those without a power cord.  it works on the power from the USB port.  It was the only device on the USB3 card. Everything else is USB2.   It worked fine.  Shortly after getting it, which was shortly after I got my new Windows 8 computer.  I had put Classic Shell on it because I hated the Windows 8 interface.  I had read that it uses win 8 drivers for the interface and that Windows would steal them back sometimes causing slight problems.  This happened I thought and my computer would freeze if left idle for more than a few minutes.  I then switched to the Stardock program that did basically the same thing and it still happened and wasn't supposed to.  Last Friday my new computer stuck on The first Gateway screen and would not boot.  Well, I called my son who is a computer tech and asked for help.  I thought my new computer I wanted so bad was broken already. He asked me a lot of questions and I told him all about it.  When I mentioned the Seagate drive that ran off of USB power he suddenly said. "That's it, Unplug it"  I did and the computer immediately started to boot.  It also has not frozen since.  You can plug and play the drive after the computer is running but you have to immediately unplug it before you try to restart or turn it off and then try to boot.  What a useless piece of crap.  Neither my son or I can figure out why it didn't start immediately and waited a month, just long enough for the 30 day return warranty to expire.  How convenient.  --------------------------------------  R
