  • There were at least 4 different shows on BBC radio recently for Stoker's 100th anniversary (of his death).

These Midnight Tales which were originally a BBC Radio 4 Book at Bedtime in 1990.

The Essay series which I think is the one that Rick mentions. Radio 3.

A reading of Dracula's Guest on Radio 3's Twenty Minutes.

Lastly, also on Radio 3 in it's Night Waves Landmarks show, a program titled 'Bram Stoker's Dracula'.

I uploaded the whole lot in one zip file for another forum. Around 190MB.

I hope Rick and kate are OK with me linking to this here. I know it's not ideal for this group as it includes documentaries.

    Night Waves
    Landmarks - Bram Stoker's Dracula
    BBC Radio 3
    Wednesday 7 March 2012 @ 22:00
    45 minutes approx.

As we approach the centenary of Bram Stoker's death, Philip Dodd presents a Landmark edition of Night Waves devoted to his Victorian gothic horror novel Dracula .

Narrated through a collection of diary entries and letters, Dracula tells the story of a young lawyer sent to manage the affairs of a mysterious Romanian count, only to unleash an evil which preys on those he holds dearest, until the forces of good rally to vanquish it once more.

Stoker's tale fuses folklore and myth with scientific rationalism, psychiatry and anthropology But the novel is much more than the sum of its parts. It is an uncanny reflection of the Victorian age, mirroring its prurient preoccupation with sex, sexuality and moral frailty. Sexually ambivalent, uncertain of origin, the vampire embodies the political and social neuroses of the times; Dracula's troubling associations with impurities of blood and race hint at Stoker's own insecurities about his Irish heritage, and suggests a concern about the dilution of British identity that came with imperial expansion.

    • Hi Jake,

The thing to do if you are worried about the documentaries is to also place a link in the documentaries group.  The only problem i see is that 4-Shared to the newbie could present some problems on a first time trip there. Thank You for these. Myself, i have a paid account to the site for downloading only from those that use it.  It simplifies the downloads greatly.  I knew there were more Bram Stoker to be had and you just simplified my finding them greatly.  Thank you!!  ----------------------------------------  Rick

  • Lovely ! Thanks, Rick.

    • Hi Lesa

There is another in Documentaries, a 5 parter about Bram Stoker and his writings.  Enjoy this, preferably in a darkened room, if not during a thunderstorm then at least by candle light. LOL  ----------------------------  Rick

    • Thanks for directing me to this other doc !  I'll certainly listen to it in the dark - but I'm afraid my husband's snoring may have to stand in for the thunderstorm...

    • LOLOL

  • Thanks Rick

    • You are welcome Robert.  ------------------------------  Rick
