John Cameron is a "breed" - a half-breed of Blackfoot Indian and white parentage, he is accepted by neither white nor Indian society until a white man, Mark Wayland, becomes like a foster father to him and makes Cameron his companion, partner and friend. Then one evening Cameron returns to their small mining cabin to find it burned to the ground.
