Meet Lucifer Box: Equal parts James Bond and Sherlock Holmes, with a twist of Monty Python and a dash of Austin Powers, Lucifer has a charming countenance and rapier wit that make him the guest all hostesses must have. And most do.
But few of his conquests know that Lucifer is also His Majesty's most daring secret agent, at home in both London's Imperial grandeur and in its underworld of despicable vice. So when Britain's most prominent scientists begin turning up dead, there is only one man his country can turn to for help.
Following a dinnertime assassination, Lucifer is dispatched to uncover the whereabouts of missing agent Jocelyn Poop. Along the way he will give art lessons, be attacked by a poisonous centipede, bed a few choice specimens, and travel to Italy on business and pleasure. Aided by his henchwoman Delilah; the beautiful, mysterious, and Dutch Miss Bella Pok; his boss, a dwarf who takes meetings in a lavatory; grizzled vulcanologist Emmanuel Quibble; and the impertinent, delicious, right-hand-boy Charlie Jackpot, Lucifer Box deduces and seduces his way from his elegant townhouse at Number 9 Downing Street (somebody has to live there) to the ruined city of Pompeii, to infiltrate a highly dangerous secret society that may hold the fate of the world in its clawlike grip?the Vesuvius Club.

The third volume in the fabulous Lucifer Box trilogy features the same combination of rapier wit and bawdy behavior that makes lucifer "the most likeable scoundrel since flashman" (Jasper fforde, author of the Thursday Next series).
Lucifer Box. He's tall, he's dark and, like the shark, he looks for trouble.
Or so he wishes. For, with Queen Elizabeth newly established on her throne, the now elderly secret agent is reaching the end of his scandalous career. Despite his fast-approaching retirement, however, queer events leave Box unable to resist investigating one last case.
Why have pillars of the Establishment started dying in bizarrely reckless accidents?
Who are the deadly pay-masters of enigmatic assassin Kingdom Kum?
And who or what is the mysterious Black Butterfly?
From the seedy streets of Soho to the souks of Istanbul and the sun-drenched shores of Jamaica, Box must use his artistic license to kill and eventually confront an enemy with its roots in his own notorious past. Can Lucifer Box save the day before the dying of the light?

Was watching Gattis in "Sherlock" recently -- anyone who can write scripts for the show as well as playing Mycroft and then write novels too has got to be a talented guy.
He is quite talented. I tried to find better encodes but on usenet it seems that they find the lowest that their ears will take with 1 reader audiobooks whereas the sky is the limit on dramatisations which is great for me because that is what I really enjoy, -------------------------------- R
I absolutely love this series. I didn't know Gatiss had recorded audiobooks for volumes 2 and 3! Wonderful!
They aren't high quality audio but most people bring the bitrate down to a much lower level for an a one reader piece than for a dramatisation when they post them. I found these on Usenet and they are offered as is. The second one was recently played on the BBC in an abridged form and is at 128K If anyone wishes that one I will addend it to this post. ------------------- R
