Jeffrey Combs Reads H.P. Lovecraft's "Herbert West - Re-Animator"

Here is Jeffrey Combs, reading H.P. Lovecraft's short story "Herbert West - Re-Animator", which, as you probably know, was made into the 1985 Stuart Gordon film simply called "Re-Animator", and which starred Mr. Combs in the role he was born to play, Herbert West. As you probably also know, Lovecraft's fiction and Gordon's film are similar only in name and some choice elements but if you enjoyed the movie and have never read the story or enjoyed the story but didn't really care much for the movie here's a little bit of the best of both worlds for you.  I hope you enjoy this classic story read by the man himself who played Herbert West in the movie.

  • A good reading, many thanks for posting.

    • BUMP

  • I saw the movie, but haven't read the story. This is great - thanks !

    • I really enjoy HP Lovecraft's work but find Herbert West - Re-animator probably his worse story. I don't think he was happy with it himself.

But the film you mentioned, and it's 2 sequels, are hilarious at times. The makers took a poor story and turned it into a fairly good comedy / horror. Combs was a good choice as West as well. I already knew him from his many Star Trek rolls.

  • Haven't started all the scary stories yet, but we may be getting thunderstorms by the end of the week so I will try to start when the ambiance is appropriate.

    Thanks, Rick

    • We are starting to get a thunderstorm right now, so I am off to a dark room to listen.  Wish me luck. LOL

    • Best of luck. If you happen upon a quivering maw from the depths of the cosmos pass it by.
