rowanwilliams, archbishop-of-canterbury-discusses-narnia-in-holy-week-lectures
I haven't listened to these yet,
but the Venn diagram of
Rowan Williams and CS Lewis
makes this an irresistible posting.
Files are available on Dr. Wms website,
so I won't overburden our Times Past
webserver.

I listened to "Not a tame lion" and it was so good,
I continued on with "I only tell you your own story"
and "Bigger inside than outside". Didn't get much done
at work.
It occurred to me that I haven't actually read
The Chronicles of Narnia, just a book and a half
out of seven. And I saw the movie.
I had an english major girlfriend in college
enamoured with CS Lewis. I typed her term papers,
so I guess I absorbed the Cliff Notes version.
Anyway, after Williams' rich commentary, I don't think
I'll be ordering the boxed set on Amazon soon.
Dr. Williams is a much deeper reader than I am,
drawing connections between the books, eliciting
sub-themes, always with a telling supporting anecdote.
I may listen to these talks several times, but I doubt
I'll grind through all seven books.
Mark Twain said something like "Given a choice between
going to heaven and hearing a lecture on heaven,
most people will choose the lecture."
Or not Mark Twain. Google has John Cage quoting Ramakrishna.
If it sounds acerbic, attribute an uncited quotation to
Mark Twain, George Carlin or Andy Rooney.
