  • That volume is part of the collection that I posted on my server

    Tom Swift Collection

    It's the last entry.
    • Hello,
I found an interesting fact while researching Tom Swift to see if I could add anything. Did you know that the TASER was was named so because it Stands for Tom A Swift's Electric Rifle, hence T.A.S.E.R.. Interesting and true. --------------------------------- Rick
    • Here's the complete quotation, direct from TASER International's website:

Where does the word "TASER" come from?

TASER is a registered trademark indicating the source of electronic control devices (ECDs). The TASER trademark pays homage to Thomas A. Swift's Electric Rifle, a childhood inspiration of John H. “Jack” Cover, inventor of early ECDs and former chief scientist of North American Aerospace's Apollo Moon Landing Program. Jack's favorite book character is Tom Swift of the Tom Swift Series, authored by Victor Appleton in 1910-1941. One of the books is titled Tom Swift and His Electric Rifle.

  • This looks interesting ---

    • Sigh ...
      "we’re updating these classic novels."

Hopefully, NOT like the BBC did to Holmes ....
    • We're not familiar with what the BBC did to Holmes. Hopefully you won't find our Audio Drama production of Tom Swift and His Motor-Cycle to be too onerous :-)

The 'updating' is primarily to remove the racially insensitive portrayals that were commonplace in 1910. We hope we've found the balance between pleasing existing Tom Swift fans and drawing in new listeners. Of course, you also need to bear in mind that this is a 'dramatization' of the story, not a book-on-tape word-for-word reading.

We have a number of work-in-progress audio clips available at http://sumppumpstudio.com/the-good-stuff/, if you're interested in hearing what we're doing.
    • I have heard about this. We were looking just mthe other day for some Tom Swift recordings and all we found were a couple of audio books. Anyways, I just wanted to tell you that we have our own little production going on right here. Here is the Link to Scattered Sounds Productions, it is also a group on the site.

    • Ah Yes, How we love it when people take classics and remake them to their taste. If their taste was so good they would write their own classic!!!
    • Well said! I think that I'll hold off on the "new" Tom Swift ...
  • I have three Tom Swift audiobooks:
Tom Swift & His Aerial Warship
Tom Swift & the Electric Runabout
Tom Swift & the Wizard Camera

Note: These are "Books in Motion" recordings.

There are also a number of Librivox recordings of other volumes in the series. i don't have them, but they are available at archive.org (free, of course)

I'll upload them as soon as i clean them up abit. I've never listened to them, so I'll check the quality during cleanup
