Charles Dickens classic, "A Christmas Carol," in a full cast dramatization
As much a part of Christmas as mistletoe, Charles Dickens' "A Christmas Carol" warms the heart of listeners with its tale of the miserly Ebenezer Scrooge.
This enchanting, full-cast recording brings Dickens' London to life on a Christmas Eve when Mr. Scrooge, who loves money more than people, is visited by his old, dead business partner Marley and three Ghosts who show him Christmas Past, Christmas Present, and Christmas Yet to Come.
Through the fine characterizations of acclaimed actors led by Sir Ralph Richardson, Scrooge's journey through his life and the lives of those around him charms and delights the listener as he, and they, learn the true meaning of Christmas.

I love this production, but, er, it isn't the one with Paul Scofield. That was done for, I think, Caedmon Records; Scofield was the narrator and Ralph Richardson played Scrooge, In this BBC Radio production by Charles LeFaux, Sir Ralph plays Scrooge and narrates as well, which he does superbly. The one real flaw is that the text has been heavily abridged for the 60-minute slot. It would have been better at 90 minutes.
This illustration was drawn by Robin Jacques, one of three or four artists who contributed superb black & white artwork to the Radio Times from the 1930s to the 1970s (another was the great Eric Fraser). Robin Jacques was a brother of the great comic actress Hattie Jacques.
The Compliments of the Season!
