The Prince Monolulu Quandary

"I gotta ‘orse!"

Comedian Stephen K Amos investigates the story of Ras Prince Monolulu, the early 20th-century horse-racing tipster whose extravagant sense of style and larger-than-life personality transformed him into a national treasure.

His presence at some of the nation's most prestigious racing events in the 1920s made Prince Monolulu the first-ever black man to appear on British national TV, but his place in history seems to have been forgotten.

Stephen traces the Prince's story from Ethiopia to Honolulu, Germany and Soho, uncovering a tale of invented exotic identities, and a struggle for survival.
