An investigation of Henry James's novel 'The Turn of the Screw'. In the years since it first appeared in 1898, James' classic horror story has inspired a variety of films, plays and novels and a Benjamin Britten opera, to say nothing of an immense critical literature. Was it simply a tale of possession of two young children or had it a deeper Freudian significance?
Narrated by Gavin Campbell
Featuring Anna Massey.
Others taking part were Heather Bell, Margot Boyd, John Gabriel, Ian Hoare, Henry Knowles, Jennifer Piercey, Roy Spencer, Robert Trotter, Philip Voss, and Manning Wilson.
Directed by Maurice Leitch
Trivia: Anna Massey's readings probably came from Teller's five-part abridged reading of 'The Turn of the Screw', which she did for Radio 4 ten months earlier in November 1977. It was read by Anna Massey and produced by Maurice Leitch.
