thankyou
Thanks!
I watched this movie on the weekend. The CBC did not do justice to Louise Penny's original novel. I find Penny's books to be very similar to those of PD James - lots of intricate character development before and after the murder around which everything and everybody revolves. Her characters have a life outside of the police investigation.
The BBC developed 5-7 episode (each of 50 minutes) mini series for each of the film versions of James' books. The CBC took similar dense rich material and made a lousy Inspector Lynley episode. Shame!
I have unabridged audio books of several of Louise Penny novels. If anyone is interested I can post them.
Your disgust at this film mirrors mine at BBC's abridgement of novels. :>)
How do you take a book that is 8.5 hours long on audiobook and "abridge" it to 5 13 minute segments?
Good on you, Bob. Love the books and look forward to this. Parker is an unusual choice, but the world is getting smaller. Hugh Laurie as House!!!!! Cheers, Dave
Frankly, the casting is the weakest part of this offering. Parker is not bad in the lead, but the rest of the cast seems like the touring company of a bad Broadway show.
Good mystery, good script, poorly delivered by the actors.
Ha ha. Luckily I haven't had the pleasure of seeing a bad Broadway show, so that might fly over my head. I get your meaning though. Sadly, here in Australia, we are losing our unique forms of entertainment and simply aping what we see. This is a non sequitur I realise and time perhaps for another coffee.
I actually went to the opening night of a show that closed during the intermission! They refunded everyone's money and we all went to a late supper
So that's what they mean by "off" Broadway!!!!
Thank you, this sounds very interesting.
