Heavy Metal (1981)

Heavy Metal is a 1981 Canadian fantasy-animated film directed by Gerald Potterton and produced by Ivan Reitman and Leonard Mogel, who also was the publisher of Heavy Metal magazine, the basis for the film. The screenplay was written by Daniel Goldberg and Len Blum.

The film is an anthology of various science fiction and fantasy stories adapted from Heavy Metal magazine and original stories in the same spirit. Like the magazine, it has a great deal of graphic violence, nudity and sexuality. Its production was expedited by having several animation houses working simultaneously on different segments, including CinéGroupe and Atkinson Film-Arts.

Plot summary
Soft Landing

The movie's title sequence story (based on the original story by Dan O'Bannon and art by Thomas Warkentin) opens with a space shuttle flying in orbit over Earth. The bay doors (on the belly of the shuttle) open, releasing a 1960 Corvette. An astronaut seated in the Corvette then begins descending through Earth's atmosphere, landing in a desert canyon.

Grimaldi

Leading directly from the title sequence, the film's framing story has the astronaut, named Grimaldi, arriving at home where he is greeted by his daughter. He shows her something he brought back: a crystalline green sphere. When he opens the case, the orb rises out and melts the astronaut. It introduces itself to the terrified girl as "the sum of all evils". Looking into the orb, known as the Loc-Nar, the girl sees how it has influenced societies through time and space

There are more vignettes in this wonderful animated movie but to tell you anymore would mean major spoilers and this movie is too good to know what is going to happen your first time seeing it.

I rate the animation a 9+ and the story line a 7.5.  All in all it is a very good Movie.

Heavy Metal 2000 (also known as Heavy Metal: F.A.K.K.² outside North America) is a 2000 animated science-fiction film produced by Jacques Pettigrew and Michel Lemire, and directed by Michael Coldewey and Lemire. It stars the voices of Julie Strain, Michael Ironside, and Billy Idol. It is the follow-up to the 1981 animated cult film Heavy Metal, which is based on the fantasy magazine of the same name. The story is based on the graphic novel, The Melting Pot, written by Kevin Eastman, Simon Bisley and Eric Talbot. The film was made by CinéGroupe, a studio based in Montreal, Quebec.

In an asteroid excavation, space crewman Tyler (Michael Ironside) and his colleague find a green crystal that is rumored to be the key to a fountain of immortality, however, it makes whoever touches it insane. Tyler ends up killing his mining partner, and takes over the ship, killing most of the resisting crew except for Dr. Schechter, and the pilots Lambert and Germain.[1] His search for the planet with the fountain leads to Eden,[2] a planet that is designated F.A.K.K.² (Federation-Assigned Ketogenic Killzone to the second level), but has inhabitants whose bodies carry the immortality fluid. Tyler invades Eden, and kills the Edenites, but captures some so he can extract their fluids. He also keeps Kerrie for his own purposes, but when Germain resists the idea, he is left on Eden.
