Grantchester (2014)

Brand new six-part drama series set in 1953, adapted from the series of novels by James Runcie.

EPISODE 1
Sidney Chambers is vicar of Grantchester and a much-admired parish priest. In the first episode, Sidney has just spent a glorious morning in the company of the woman with whom he is secretly in love, Amanda Kendall. Racing to church, Sidney arrives just in time to conduct the funeral of a local solicitor - a death which appears to be the result of suicide. Sidney comforts the man's young widow Hildegard Staunton, but is soon called away by the glamorous Pamela Morton. Pamela reveals that she was having an affair with the dead man and has reason to believe he was murdered. Sidney starts to investigate and soon comes up against the grumpy local DI, Geordie Keating - who does not appreciate the vicar sticking his oar in. As Sidney begins to uncover evidence that the suicide was staged, his own world is shaken apart when he receives news that Amanda has got engaged.

This is a light mystery series. Think Death in Paradise with an ecclesiastical collar.  Each episode offers a complete mystery with the Vicar-Amanda business tying the episodes together.

  • Again; with a tip of my woolen toque, a big thanks for sharing.

    • Just on the off chance - would Death in Paradise be on offer?  Its no longer being broadcast by the PBS channel on my cable service and I could only find 3 complete episodes on Youtube.

And thanks once again for the Grantchester series. I'm very impressed with the level of complexity of character and plot development that the screen writer has been able to bring to the storyline.

    • Death in Paradise Series 4 is being broadcast weekly right now on the BBC.

Once it's finished, I'll post the full set.

    • Looking forward to that. Thanks.
