Hopalong Cassidy Movies

The sixty-six Hopalong Cassidy pictures were filmed by independent producers who released the films through the studios. Most of the "Hoppies," as the films were known, were distributed by Paramount Pictures to highly favorable returns. They were noted for their fast action and excellent outdoor photography (usually by Russell Harlan). Harry Sherman was anxious to make more ambitious movies and tried to cancel the Cassidy series, but popular demand forced Sherman to go back into production, this time for United Artists release. Sherman gave up the series once and for all in 1944, but William Boyd wanted to keep it going. To do this, he gambled his entire future on Hopalong Cassidy, mortgaging virtually everything he owned to buy both the character rights from Mulford and the backlog of movies from Sherman.In the first film, Hopalong Cassidy (then spelled "Hop-along") got his name after being shot in the leg. Hopalong's "drink of choice" was the nonalcoholic sarsaparilla.

01 HOP-ALONG CASSIDY (1935)
The movie that started it all! William Boyd’s very first outing as Hoppy finds him trying to stop a band of cattle rustlers. Charles Middleton (Flash Gordon) plays one of the bad guys.

03 BAR 20 RIDES AGAIN (1935)
Hoppy poses as a big-time gambler to stop an evil cattle rustler, who suffers delusions of grandeur. Chill Wills (The Alamo) makes an early-career appearance as a singer.

02 THE EAGLE’S BROOD (1935)
In the second film of this classic series, Hoppy saves the life of a notorious – but
reformed - outlaw (silent star William Farnum) and winds up helping him find his
missing grandson.

    04 Call Of The Prairie
    Hoppy returns to find Johnny in trouble. Buck Peters has been shot by Porter who made it look like Johnny did it. When Johnny flees he runs into Linda. He takes a liking to her only to learn her father Shanghai is one of Porter's gang. Going after Shanghai, he gets captured by the gang and Porter now plans to kill him. But Hoppy is near by and Johnny will get unexpected help from Shanghai.
