Classic 60's Spy Parody...

James Coburn starred as Derek Flint in this parody of the James Bond series produced by Saul David for 20th Century Fox.  Played for laughs, the "Flint" series featured a spy organization named the Zonal Organization World Intelligence Espionage (ZOWIE) that would intercede whenever nefarious plots threatened the United States.  Veteran actor Lee J. Cobb co-starred as the head of ZOWIE.

A scene from "Flint" appears in the Austin Powers movie "The Spy Who Shagged Me," and the distinctive telephone ring from the President is used in the first "Austin Powers" film

Our Man Flint (1966)

Summary:  The world's weather seems to have changed dramatically with violent storms everywhere and long dormant volcanoes suddenly erupting. No one is sure what is happening or why but when American intelligence chief Cramden loses yet another team of agents, there appears to be only one man who can do the job: Derek Flint, former super spy, incredibly rich and the ultimate ladies man. Despite Cramden's concerns, Flint is on the job and soon discovers that the Earth's weather is under the control of a secret organization known as GALAXY whose scientists are looking to pacify the world and devote humankind to scientific pursuits.

In Like Flint (1967)

Summary: Flint is again called out of retirement when his old boss finds that he seems to have missed three minutes while golfing with the president. Flint finds that the president has been replaced by an actor (Flint's line [with a wistful look] is "An Actor as President?") Flint finds that a group of women have banded together to take over the world through subliminal brainwashing in beauty salons they own.

  • We own these on DVD and really enjoy both films. My wife liked the "red phone" so much she has it as her ringtone on her phone. Great fun escapist films that could only have been done in the 60s. I wish Coburn had made a couple more.

  • Loved this movie codepop, still a fave I watch once a year! Went to the famous Mayfair theatre in Ottawa and saw it with the entire ' gang ' on our street! 25 Cents! Ah! The Sixties. How I miss them. The Matt helm movies with Dean Martin were a hoot as well. But I must admit. None cooler than Derek Flint! Great Upload! - R.L. PS - On a double bill with John Wayne in The Searchers!(I swoon thinking about it!!!)

  • Many thanks, codepop! :)
