D24 - Series

Dramatised stories of true cases of crime taken from the files of the Victoria Police Department. D24 was the name of the Victoria Police Information Bureau. Names, place names and dates were altered.

Cast: John Morgan, Douglas Kelly, Richard Davies, Keith Eden, Clifford Cowley, George Randall, Patricia Kennedy, Sydney Conabere.

Broadcast on 3DB Melbourne from 1951 and on country stations around Victoria. The series ran for
about 8 years and had a very large following. Crawfords had a similar show called ‘CIB’ broadcast Australia wide apart from Victoria. D24 stories were all based in Victoria whereas CIB stories were
based on crimes all round Australia.

Episode 1: the story of a boy, a gun and a murder.

Synopisis
Warragul, Victoria, 1945 - a boy steals a gun from a farm and teams up with a mate to hold up a man as he alights from a tram in Union Road, Balwyn. The victim reports the crime to D24. The pair continue on their crime spree in Brighton where a hold-up attempt goes wrong and the victim is shot dead. After a further hold up in South Yarra, Inspector Guthrie and his team comb the area for the youths who are eventually spotted at South Yarra Station and taken into custody.

  • Has anyone got these from here? I can listen to them but downloads get a file called "data" and just cannot be opened as an mp3. Oh it does work if I put .mp3 on the end. All I need to do now is copy the text.
