The Living and the Dead

By Pierre Boileau and Thomas Narcejac, dramatised by Adrian Bean. From the
novel that inspired Hitchcock's Vertigo, though this radio play reverts to the
original source, set in 1940 Paris and 1944 Marseilles.
Jacque Flaviers is a troubled, complex soul, who has been rejected from the
army on medical grounds. He has been unlucky in love, and has a devastating
fear of heights. Working as a lawyer, an old friend contacts him requesting
that he takes on a private assignment to spy on his wife. Resistant at first,
Flaviers finds himself empowered by the woman - and then eventually, fatally
obsessed.
