Classic Serial - Fair Stood The Wind For France 15-11-2009 - 22-11-2009
Dramatisation by Maddy Fredericks of HE Bates' classic tale of danger, suspense and romance in Second World War France.
Review From The Radio Times
This dramatisation of HE Bates's wartime classic begins on a moonlit night in northern France with pilot John Franklin forced to crash-land his bomber in occupied territory. The first few minutes of this excellent production, as injured Franklin describes the lights, shapes and dreams of semi-consciousness, set the mood for what follows, because this is as much about the pilot's inner battles as it is about the adventure and suspense of war. Rory Kinnear as Franklin really loses himself in the poetry of the story as he and his rescuer, fellow crewman O'Connor, form the potent bond of saviour and saved, only to argue bitterly when Franklin falls in love with a French farm girl. Will she betray them both?
