Dick Barton and The Cabatolin Diamonds
Dick Barton and The Cabatolin Diamonds is another of the long lost Dick Barton - Special Agent radio adventures rediscovered in the National Film and Sound Archive of Australia in 2009.
This full cast radio drama by Geoffrey Webb was originally broadcast on the BBC Light Programme in the late 1940s and starred Noel Johnson as Dick Barton.
Like most programmes of this era, the programmes were wiped shortly after broadcast leaving Dick Barton and his friends Jock, Snowey and Jean missing in action from the BBC archive.
Douglas Kelly Portrayed Dick Barton In Overseas Broadcasts
Fortunately, a number of early Dick Barton - Special Agent adventures were re-recorded in 1949 for overseas transmission featuring Douglas Kelly as Barton. It was these broadcasts that found further audiences in New Zealand, South Africa and Australia.
Later archived in the National Film and Sound Archive of Australia, it is these episodes which have recently found their way onto audiobook format on the BBC’s AudioGo label.
The narrative of Dick Barton and The Cabatolin Diamonds follows immediately on from Dick Barton and The Paris Adventure, also recently released by AudioGo and featuring Douglas Kelly as Barton.
