The Oresteia: Agamemnon
Aeschylus’s tragic trilogy about a family that cannot escape its own vicious cycle of bloodshed opens with Agamemnon in a new version by playwright Simon Scardifield.
The eponymous hero — or villain, depending upon which side of the gruesome family one favours — has returned victorious from Troy, but the price he paid to secure a safe journey was to sacrifice his own daughter, Iphigenia, to the gods. Clytemnestra is determined to avenge her daughter by killing her husband Agamemnon.
