In an Irish provincial theatre in 1745, the famous actor David Garrick is scheduled to give a one-night performance as Hamlet. When the great man fails to appear, a lesser-known actor seizes his chance.

Ben Crocker founded the Magnificent Theatre Company in 1989. As Artistic Director he developed it over the course of eight years to become one of the most successful Arts Council-funded middle-scale touring companies. The Garrick Fever was one of the company's productions.
