As promised, the earlier Lapotaire production from the World Service
To spend one's days mourning your father and having to live with his murderers is an unendurable way of life. Electra is only sustained by the hope that one day her brother will return and avenge their father's death. But why doesn't he come?
While Agamemnon is away at the Trojan War, his wife Clytaemnestra is seduced by Aegisthus. When Agamemnon returns he is killed by the lovers, who also try to kill his son Orestes. However Electra manages to save the boy and sends him away to be looked after by friends.
Orestes returns, at first unrecognised by Electra, to avenge his father's death.

My personal opinion Bob, for what is worth; having just listened to the Lapotaire version, is that her production is by far the better of the two.
I could hear all the voices clearly whereas the modern version needed subtitles to help me follow what was going on.
