Mr & Mrs Nobody by Keith Waterhouse

Mr and Mrs Nobody is an adaptation of George and Weedon Grossmith’s comic novel the Diary Of A Nobody and Mrs Pooter’s Diary. First performed at theYvonne Arnaud Theatre, Guildford.

By Keith Waterhouse, adapted by Gordon House.

It is the Spring of 1888. The place: The Laurels, Holloway.

Carrie Pooter,  Charles’ long-suffering wife, has written her own diary which parallels that of her husband and thus we get her version of events. This is often at odds with the details chronicled by Mr Pooter - not so much in the actual events themselves but in the way he portrayed them and so we get Carrie's perspective and we find out how she spends her day while her husband is at the office, what she thinks of his weak jokes, her recipe for mutton cakes and the true story of how a wine stain appeared on their invitation card to the Lord Mayor's Ball.
