Notes: Selected at Drama Annual Review for Elsa Verghis' performance.
Elsa Verghis is known as one of the best verse speakers on the Greek
stage, and has established an international reputation as one of the
supreme interpreters of the great roles of classical Greek tragedy.
First performed the part of Medea when only 19, soon after joining the
Greek National Theatre, following this with other outstanding
performances of the dramatic heroines of the ancient tragedies during
the next 15 years. In 1958, decided to devote more of her time to
contemporary drama, and now has her own theatre in Athens in order to do
this. (from Radio Times).
